Club Activity Program

Not yet a member? You are welcome to participate in up to three activities before joining. To express interest to a leader whose contact details are not displayed, email - the leader will contact you. If you are not familiar with the procedures of the Club, please read the Walk Information.

Wednesday Walks: Wednesday walks are run jointly with the Brindabella Bushwalking Club (BBC) and National Parks Association ACT (NPA). Details are emailed a few days before each walk. Contact Janet, co-ordinator of Wednesday Walks to be added to the email list. If you are not a member of the BBC, NPA or CBC you must contact the leader before the walk to discuss the level of difficulty and must be accompanied on the walk by a sponsoringd member. Please note that leaders retain the right not to accept any walker.

Short-notice walks are added to this list. Club members who wish to be alerted when Short Notice walks are added, please logon and edit your profile accordingly.

Tuesday 3 February Cbr100Challenge Training – 100km route – L/E

Walk a bit of the 100km route from the start towards Hall. Around 45km. Maps: Canberra and Hall. Leader: John Evans 0417 436 877, . Transport: Drive yourself, but let me know if you need a lift and I'll try to assist.

Thursday evening 5 February: Mulligans Flat West – S/E

Meet 6.30 in the main Mulligans Flat car park. Go down Horse Park Drive, turn into Francis Forde Boulevard as per sign, then left into Amy Ackman St which will take you to the Mulligans Flat car park. Nice open bushland. (6) 7–8 February: Genoa River – S/R/W

From Hopping Joes Creek we walk and rockhop south to a lovely campsite on a sandy bend. Great pools and cliffs. This is a relatively easy river trip. Map: Nungatta Leaders: Irene Davies and Keith Thomas 62301081 or Transport: ~$220 per car. Limit: 8


Saturday, 7 February 2015 – CBR100 Challenge training - Parliament House to Mount Majura return – L/E

A walk following the Centenary Trail and taking in Mount Ainslie and Mount Majura. Starting from the Foundation Stone in front of Parliament House, we'll follow the trail around the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin, before visiting the summits of Ainslie and Majura, and then returning to Parliament House. Between 30 and 40km. You're welcome to join me for as long or as short as you like – phone me to check where I am. Bookings: By 2pm Thursday 5 February please. Sunday 8 February: Monga Rainforest Adventure – S/R

A walk designed for active kids aged 7 to 12 and their parents or grandparents. A circuit of 4 km from the River Forest Road with the highlight being magical Eucryphia forest, with a few monkey vines and a small clear creek. Mostly open understorey, but we will also have to get through 200–300 metres of scrub which guards the rainforest. Good shade. Meet in Braidwood, after which a 10–15 minute drive. Map: Monga. Tuesday 10 February: Rendezvous Crags – M/R

A circuit taking in Rendezvous Crags and Orca Rock, on the spur at ~776E 477N GDA94, exact route to be decided according to the weather. At least 10 km & 400m ascent & descent, mostly off track, some thick scrub, good granite, and at least one good viewpoint. Maps: Rendezvous Creek and possibly Corin Dam Leader: Linda Groom , 02 6281 4917 Transport: tba. Limit: 8. Late bookings considered.

Thursday 12th February: Yarralumla and lakeshore PRAMbulation – S/E

A semi-circuit designed for parents or grandparents with kids in strollers - good shade, on bike path and footpath, mainly in parkland. Meet at 1 pm where the bike path crosses Guilfoyle Street, Yarralumla (near the corner of Newman Street and Guilfoyle). About 50 minutes walking. No need to book. Leader: Linda Groom , 02 6281 4917 . Thursday evening 12 February: Bruce and O'Connor ridges – S/E

Meet at 6.30 in the the car park opposite 160 Dryandra St, O'Connor for a walk in these two pleasant areas. No need to book. Map: Canberra Leader: Stan Marks 6254 9568(h) or Transport: Drive yourself.

Saturday 14 February: Snowy Flat Falls – M/M

Corin Dam – Stockyard Spur – Snowy Flats and return. Map: Corin Dam Leader: Jenny Horsfield 6231 4535. Transport: ~$40 per vehicle.

Saturday 14 February: Cbr100Challenge Training – LBG – L/E

Brandy Flat Hut

14–15 February 2015: Sub 24 hour camping #1 (S24C#1) – Brandy Flat Hut – S/E

Day 1: An afternoon wander from Glendale Crossing up track and fire trail to Brandy Flat. Camping by Brandy Flat Hut with views down Gudgenby Creek. Day 2: A morning return by the same route. Ideal bush break for busy people. Suitable as an overnight pack trip for beginners. In the event of hot weather we will postpone. Sunday, 15 February 2015 – Red Hill circuit – M/E-M

Starting from Deakin, walking to the summit of Red Hill, taking in the great views along the ridge line to Hindmarsh Drive. Follow the eastern and northern edges of the reserve back to the cars. About 10 km in all (a little shorter than my last couple of walks!), finish by lunchtime. Bookings: by 2pm Thursday, 12 February please Map: Canberra. Monday evening 16 February: Flat Black Mountain – S/E

Meet 6.30. Park at the end of Frith St near the electricity substation for a wander over and around the little known, low mountain to the north of the main peak for some different views. No need to book. Map: Canberra Leader: Stan Marks 6254 9568(h) or Transport: Drive yourself.

Tuesday 17 February: Tall Forests on Little Ginini Mountain – L/R

This is a long and hard walk. We start at Corin Dam and follow the walking track to Pryors Hut. We then spend four hours off-track to the west of Little Ginini Mountain in the Bimberi Nature Reserve. We follow a creek down through magnificent tall forests of Alpine Ash for two hours, and then follow another creek back to the road at Stockyard Gap. We then follow the walking track back to Corin Dam. The off-track section is steep, scrubby and rocky in places. Thursday evening 19 February: Burley Griffin – S/E

Meet at 6.30 pm in the car park on the right of the road outside the Governor General's residence on Dunrossil Drive for a wander along the lake to Weston Park and back. No need to book. Map: Canberra Leader: Stan Marks 6254 9568(h) or Transport: Drive yourself.

Saturday 21 February: Gibraltar Creek – S/M/W

Access Gibraltar Creek through old pine forest a crowlometer or so above the Falls. Wend our way down to Gibraltar Falls, then in underneath for a good look. Continue down through Woods Reserve, then rock-hop or splash a few more crowlometers. Visit Mushroom Rock if we feel like it.  Sunday 22 February: CBR100 Challenge training – Lake Ginninderra, Centenary Trail to Black Mountain, Mount Painter, Lake Ginninderra – L/E

This walk will start from John Knight Park on Lake Ginninderra, doing a circuit of the lake before following the Centenary Trail to Black Mountain. After visiting the Black Mountain summit, the walk will go through the Aranda Bushland and visit the summit of Mount Painter, before returning to Lake Ginninderra. About 25–30km all up. 21–22 February: Alpine weed control: Kosciuszko National Park – S/E to L/M

Weed rehabilitation, weed spotting and some hands-on weed identification training, advertised by short-notice email before Christmas, now fully booked. Further details on the CBC Special Events page. Monday evening 23 February: Ainslie/Majura Reserve – S/E

Be at the entrance to the park beside 39 Mackenzie St, Hackett, just north of the Grayson St intersection at 6.30 for a walk in the saddle between Mt Ainslie and Mt Majura. No need to book. Map: Canberra Leader: Stan Marks 6254 9568(h) or Transport: Drive yourself.

Fadden pines

Thursday 26 February: Gowrie to Fadden PRAMbulation – S/E

A walk designed for parents or grandparents with kids in strollers, through suburban Gowrie to the scenic Fadden Pines Park. All on bike path, fairly flat, with about 1/3 of the walk in good shade. The park has public toilets. About 1 hour walking. Optional coffee at the Common Grounds Café afterwards. Meet at 1 pm in the Gowrie Shops car park, Jeffries Street, outside the café. Thursday evening 26 February: Mt Painter – S/E

Meet at 6.30 in the car park accessed via the lane beside 57 MacKellar Circuit, Cook and visit this nearby peak with great views. No need to book. Map: Canberra Leader: Stan Marks 6254 9568(h) or Transport: Drive yourself.

Saturday 28 February: Cbr100Challenge training – Regatta Point to Duffy via the northern Canberra Centenary Trail – L/E
