Canberra Bushwalking Club Inc – Annual General Meeting – 29 September 2022 – Minutes of Meeting (held via Zoom)
Welcome
Social Secretary Ana Vrancic opened the meeting at 7:30 pm, giving the Acknowledgment of Country and inviting President Terrylea Reynolds to present her report. 24 members were present via Zoom.
President’s Report
Terrylea highlighted significant achievements for the year which included:
- Celebration (one year deferred because of Covid) of the 60th anniversary of the Club; including a successful photo display in April at Namadgi Visitors’ Centre; a well-attended and very happy anniversary dinner on 14 May at the Irish Club, at which 20 of the photos were auctioned; production of the outstanding ‘souvenir’ 60th CBC Anniversary Newsletter; Terrylea expressed her thanks to the many Club members who had been involved in planning and undertaking these events.
- Terrylea thanked the 2021-22 committee, noting key points from relevant reports, including:
- Reinvigorated walks program including a wide variety of walks; with more leaders coming forward
- Healthy levels of Club membership (440 in September 2022)
- A range of submissions on conservation issues, including the Club’s opposition to an above-ground transmission line in Kosciuszko National Park; and the proposed establishment of a crematorium close to Callum Brae Nature Reserve in the ACT. The Club had supported the establishment of the Gardens of Stone National Park in the southern Blue Mountains and continued to support brumby management in KNP.
- A huge amount of work had gone into establishing and testing the Bilby bookings and membership platform, which was now expected to ‘Go Live’ in October 2022, once negotiations with payment provider Stripe were concluded. Special thanks to Web Manager Andrew Meers!
Walks Secretary’s Report
Walks Secretary Quentin Moran summarised the achievements of the year:
- there had been 619 completed activities, representing 980 days of walking, a strong result
- A huge vote of thanks to the Club’s 54 active leaders! Those who had been conspicuous contributors would be honoured in the usual way. It was especially encouraging to note the emergence of new leaders.
Greg Buckley Award
The award for 2022 was presented to Andrew Meers for his patient and painstaking work in setting up the Bilby partnership with Jeremy Rojo. Zealous had been a good bookings and membership system but had reached the end of its reliable life–Bilby promised to be a more reliable and more secure successor.
