Welcome! Here is some information to help you start walking with the Club.

How to make a booking for a walk/join an activity or ask a question about an activity

Seen an activity that you like? If you’re a member, just Create a Booking. If you’re a guest, you’re also welcome to Create a Booking, but please note that when you arrive for the activity your Leader will ask you to sign the Acknowledgement of Risks and Obligations form. This is an insurance requirement for all participants in all Club activities.

Want to ask the Activity Owner/Leader a question about the activity, equipment needed, or any other aspect of that activity? Then just Send an Inquiry to the Activity Owner/Leader of the activity.

Gradings and activity descriptions

The activity grading (e.g. M/E, meaning Medium length, Easy terrain) and the description are there to help you assess your ability to complete the walk safely and enjoyably.

Transport

For many activities there is a carpooling system with shared transport costs. This cost covers fuel, maintenance and running costs of the vehicles. The current transport rate is 45c per kilometre, shared amongst all participants including drivers. There may also be park entry fees and camping fees. The Activity Owner/Leader will contact you about transport arrangements a few days before the walk if carpooling and/or shared transport is being arranged. If you have a suitable car, please be prepared to offer your vehicle once you know how the carpooling system works. For more details please see the Transport Pooling Guidelines.

Risks

Bushwalking and other outdoor activities involve risks that could lead to injury, illness, death and/or loss of or damage to your property. The Club has policies and procedures to help manage risks, but you remain responsible for your own safety. Before each activity, you must acknowledge your risks and obligations.

What happens if an activity finishes late?

Late finishes are rare, but can happen. Before the walk, please let anyone likely to worry about your late return know that the first contact point is the Club’s Check-In Officer, not the police or National Parks Service.

The Club has a contact process in place for Overdue Walkers.

Wednesday Walks

Wednesday walks are organised collaboratively by three Canberra clubs – Brindabella Bushwalking Club, National Parks Association (ACT) and CBC. All Wednesday Walks are no-need-to-book walks, but please read the Wednesday Walk participation rules before you turn up at the meeting point.
