A handy feature of Bilby is that, once your booking has been accepted (marked as Valid by the activity owner), you can see who else is on the walk via the Message Board, Participants tab. But it doesn’t help much if all you see is Fred (ie. the walker’s Username). Other entries show in a more helpful manner, such as JoeBilby123 followed by Joe Smith on the next line (ie. the walker’s Username followed by Full Name).
What’s going on here? Bilby has been written to include best practice privacy considerations. There are some CBC members and guests who would prefer not to expose their Full Name.
So they have marked their privacy preference for this as ‘Visible to any activity owner’ or ‘Visible to admin officers only’, rather than ‘Visible to any active member’.
When booking on an activity, spare a thought for the owner (leader). For a number of reasons, they’d probably like to know your full name. Consider setting the privacy preference for your Full Name to ‘Visible to any activity owner’. That will still protect your full name from active membership view.
Activity owners – the ideal way to see the details of participants is via the Details link on the right of a participant entry. Click the Booking Info tab.
If you have strict privacy concerns, communicate your details to the walk leader via a 1-to-1 Bilby Note, or send an off-Bilby email.
