Rules

  1. To be eligible, a map must:
    • be published by Land and Property Information NSW or the equivalent government authority in other Australian states and territories.
    • not be a specialty map or a ‘print your own’ map such as those available from Vicmap.
    • meet the following map scale criteria:
      • the largest (i.e. most detailed) scale maps to be eligible are 1:25,000
      • where a 1:25,000 map is not published, the eligible map will be the largest scale currently published that includes that area.
  2. To be eligible, an activity must
    • be on foot and either day or overnight, so bushwalking, canyoning and skiing will be counted, but not cycling or canoeing.
    • be listed on the Club program, as a regular or a short-notice activity; activities listed only on the it Bulletin Board are not eligible.
    • cover a minimum of 4 kilometres or one hour of active travel.
  3. To be eligible, a participant’s completion of an activity must be reported by the leader on an ‘Acknowledgement of Risks and Obligations’ sheet.
  4. If an activity occurs on multiple eligible maps, each of the maps will be counted, provided the activity covers a minimum of 4 kilometres or one hour of travel on each map.
  5. Participants’ achievements will be recorded in three categories:
    • Day activity: (defined as starting from Canberra and returning to Canberra between 5 am and midnight on the same day, including travel). Target = 40 different maps.
    • Overnight activity: (defined as any activity that is not a day activity). Target = 40 different maps.
    • ACT activity: (defined as travelling for a minimum of 4 km or one hour in the ACT section of a map, with two exceptions noted below). Jervis Bay is not considered as being in the ACT. Target = all 16 allowable maps.
  6. Where an activity and map fit into more than one category the activity will be counted in each category (e.g. a day walk in the ACT on the Rendezvous Creek 1:25,000 map will be counted as both a Day activity and an ACT activity), i.e. counted twice.

  • Colinton

The land on the Sutton map is in the Majura Firing Range and therefore inaccessible and consequently will not be counted.

Maps within ‘Day-trip’ distance of Canberra

To provide an idea of the number of maps that are within a reasonable distance for day trips, there are approximately 32 maps within 50 km of Civic (as the crow flies) and approximately 101 maps within 100 km. These are a mix of 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps.
