Point Hut Pond

Route

Start at the sealed carpark at Point Hut Crossing Picnic Area. Head uphill on the abandoned bitumen road to Jim Pike Avenue.

Cross Jim Pike Avenue and turn sharply right (south west) along the dam wall that retains Point Hut Pond. Once across the wall, curve left to join the bike path that heads south east beside Point Hut Pond, through mature casuarina trees.

The Pond on your left will give way to a feeder creek. Continue upstream keeping the creek on your left. Cross under Knoke Avenue by an underpass.

Continue upstream in the same direction, still keeping the creek on your left, for about 650 metres, until you see a major road (Tharwa Drive) up ahead. Turn left, using a footbridge to cross the creek.

At this point, if you would like a longer walk, you have the option to continue uphill, under Tharwa Drive, and join the Parks and Wetlands of Conder walk. Otherwise, turn left again as soon as you are across the creek. You have effectively done a U-turn and are now heading downhill (north west) on bike path, with the creek on your left.

When you reach Point Hut Pond again, veer right and follow the paths that lead you around the pond for 1 km, firstly north then west, until you reach Jim Pyke Avenue at the point at which you crossed it earlier. After crossing Jim Pyke Avenue, head downhill on the abandoned road i.e. retrace your steps to the start. A picnic at Point Hut Crossing is a great way to end this walk.
